• Obituary: Bangor Daily News, 17 Nov 1998, Bangor, ME. OAKLAND -- Rodney C. Harmon, 51, died unexpectedly Nov. 15, 1998, at an Augusta hospital as the result of a tree cutting accident. He was born in Presque Isle, March 26, 1947, the son of Lendall and Virginia (Burby) Harmon. He graduated from Presque Isle High School in 1965, and attended the University of Maine at Presque Isle. He served overseas with the U.S. Navy from 1967 to 1971. At the time of his death, he was employed by Central Maine Power Co. as a line supervisor. He was active with the Literacy Volunteers and was a member of the Messalonskee Masonic Lodge AF & AM. He served as a member of the Central Maine Power Co. Employees Federal Credit Union Board of Directors. Rodney volunteered for many community projects involving children, including helping found the Waterville Chapter of Big Brothers and Big Sisters. He was predeceased by his father, Lendall Harmon, in 1996. Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Janice (Pottle) Harmon; his mother, Virginia Harmon of Fairfield Center; two sons, Scott Harmon and his wife, Michelle Keating of Fayette, and Andrew Harmon of Oakland; a brother, Wayne and his wife Mavis Harmon of Oneida, Wis.; two sisters, Linda and her husband, Bill Allen of Jay, and Donnie J. Harmon of Skowhegan; two grandchildren, Ethan and Natalie Harmon of Fayette; several nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. Friends are invited to visit 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, at Wheeler Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Oakland. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at Oakland United Baptist Church, 31 Church St., Oakland. Burial will be at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta. Memorial donations may be made to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kennebec County, P.O. Box 9002, Augusta 04338, or to a scholarship fund in Rod's memory to Central Maine Power Employees Federal Credit Union, Edison Drive, Augusta 04330.
