LITCHFIELD -- Carl V. Seaman, 88, died Wednesday, March 9, 2005, at the Heritage Rehabilitation & Living Center in Winthrop.
Carl was born in Ridgeway, N.C., on May 8, 1916, to Johanna and Arnold Seaman. Carl moved to Florida, where he worked on building the Rickenbacker Causeway in Miami in 1946. It was there that he met and married Thelma C. Raven in June 1947. Carl and Thelma lived in Ridgeway before moving to Freedom and Auburn.
In 1950 they bought a farm in Litchfield. Carl was known locally as a farmer of strawberries and vegetables, which he sold at a stand on the farm. He was also known for his skills as a carpenter and built a number of local homes. Since 1989, Carl and Thelma had resided during the winter months in Bradenton, Fla.
Carl was an active member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Lewiston from 1950 to 1985. He served many years as vice president of the church council and on the building committee. He also donated a Christmas tree yearly to the church. Carl later became a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Augusta.
His daughter, Caroline Brown, and his sister, Clara Strube, predeceased him.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma Seaman of Litchfield; three sons, Ronald Seaman of Freeport, Michael Seaman of Litchfield and Eric Seaman of Litchfield; one daughter, Ann Johansen of Winterport; two sisters, Margaret Rosebuck of Preston, Md., and Elizabeth Nolde of Bon Air, Va.; two brothers, Walter Seaman of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Albert Seaman of Norlina, N.C.; one stepbrother, Herman Brauer of Norlina; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Visiting hours will be 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 14, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 209 Eastern Ave., Augusta.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Carl's memory may be made to the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church Building Fund, 209 Eastern Ave., Augusta.


Carl married Thelma Christina Raven, daughter of Ernest Edward Raven and Ellura Belle Larrabee, on 1 Jun 1947 in Miami, Dade, Florida, United States.
