• Obituary: Newburyport News, 28 Apr 2016, Newburyport, MA. Anthony E. Raven, 64, died in the line of duty on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Anna Jaques Hospital. He was born in Knox, Maine on January 21, 1952 to the late Earl and Mildred (Doughty) Raven. Anthony was a graduate of Newburyport High School, Class of 1970, followed by graduating from Essex Agricultural and Technical School with his horticultural degree. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed on the U.S.S. Roosevelt aircraft carrier, where he manned the Admiral's Barge. Following his honorable discharge, Anthony furthered his education by graduating from North Shore Community College with a degree in Fire Science. Anthony became a Newburyport Firefighter in 1984 where he was employed until April 26th, serving the Newburyport community for 32 years. He also was a talented Mason and designed many patios, walkways and walls in the Newburyport area. Anthony's spare time was passionately enjoyed with his family, which brought him great joy. He will always be remembered for his big heart, gentle manner and strong shoulders to lean on. Anthony is survived by his soul mate and loving wife, Mary Tobin Raven; sons, Will and Matt Raven, all of Newburyport. Siblings, David Raven and his wife, Paula of Newburyport, Paul Raven of Florida and Sherry Raven of Maine, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, James Raven. Family and friends may call on Friday, April 29, 2016 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Church 42 Green St, Newburyport, MA 01950. His funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Immaculate Conception Church, friends are invited to meet at Church. Burial will be private at a later date. The Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home, 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950, is assisting Mr. Raven's family with his funeral arrangements.
