Roy Melvin Thurston, age 85, of Old Town, Maine passed away on Friday, April 24, 2020.
Roy was born March 20, 1935, in Stillwater, ME to his late parents Guy L. Thurston and Madeline M. Rogers Thurston. He's a descendant of the Thurston's in Errol, NH, and Bethel, ME; as well to the Rogers dairy farm, Old Town. A 1954 Old Town High School graduate, 4 years in the Air National Guards, and retired from years of employment at the University of Maine in Orono.
He was an avid sportsman. His church was the outdoors in nature. He welcomed friends and family to join him there in that connection he so loved and had. His passion of fishing, hunting, antique bottle digs, tinkering w/his antique Bronco and Jeep, camping, canoeing, four wheeling, bingo, family time at west lake camp, and time around the fire w/a cold beer was his rewards for a life well lived. He was most happy when he could gather family and be apart of their lives.
He had very strong work ethics and lent a helping hand to many who needed it. His friends, relatives, children, and grandchildren could feel his sincerity in care and loved his joking nature.
He is survived by his loving wife Janet Ogden Miles Thurston of 42 years, who embraced all his adventures in nature, and together they shared their love of each other and family right till the end.
Children; Rodney Thurston (predeceased) and Brenda Thurston Mace. Ronald Thurston and wife Gail. Kathy Thurston and Cory Fahey; step children Richard Miles and wife Nancy, Michael Miles, George Miles, and wife Debbie.
Grandchildren; Heather Thurston, Whitney Thurston and husband Travis Reilly, Chelsey Thurston and fiancé Brad Await, Kayla Thurston and husband Corey Georgia, Ronnie Thurston and partner Dawn Moulton, Kasey Thurston. Donna Miles and partner Val Shields, Ricky Miles, Dylan Miles (predeceased).
Great grandchildren: Fredrick King, Brady King, Violet Schweit, Preston Georgia, Parker Georgia, Taylor Miles.
Siblings; Alan Thurston and wife Betty. *Predeceased siblings; Robert Thurston, Nona Perkins Sibley, and Ann Thurston Askew.
He was very close with his nephews and nieces as they made many fond memories over the years camping, fishing, and travels together in the Maine woods of Katahdin to the coast of Lamoine and UpTaCamp.
