Ronald A. Brown, 70, of Malta, passed away March 23, 2012 in Sarasota, Florida with his loving family by his side. Born on August 11, 1941 in Ballston Spa, NY, Ron was the oldest son of the late Alfred C. and Mary Greenough Brown. A lifelong resident of Malta, Ron grew up in Round Lake and was a 1959 graduate of Shenendehowa High School.
After graduating from Hudson Valley Community College, Ron began his career as a civil engineer. Ron retired in 1997 as a Materials Engineer for the NYS Department of Transportation. During his time with DOT, Ron met many of his lifelong friends and also met his loving wife of 47 years, Linda Edmonds Brown. His dedication to his work led to him being sent overseas to the Baltic States as a consultant and also being awarded the NYS DOT Excellence in Engineering Award in 1996.
Ron was a past volunteer fireman for the Round Lake Hose Company and also worked evenings as a mutual clerk in the clubhouse at the Saratoga Raceway for over 30 years.
Ron was a member of The Wesley Community Board from June 1989 to June 1998. He served as President of the board from June 1993 to June 1998. Both of Ron's parents and his grandmother, along with many friends, were residents of The Wesley Community, which was very dear to Ron.
In his retirement, Ron worked part time for the Gorman Brothers Group and spent the winters in Florida with his wife. Ron was a lifelong member of the Round Lake United Methodist Church and played many invaluable roles in the church over the years.
Ron was a wonderful husband, a loving father and a giving friend. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, traveling and taking photos of his family. Ron particularly loved the time he spent at his camp in Keene Valley, NY but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, Ron was predeceased by his younger brother, Robert Brown. He is survived by his wife Linda, their three children, Kim Bowman of Raleigh, NC, Traci Brown of Clifton Park, and Jeffrey Brown (Molly) of Clifton Park, his sister, Carol DeMartino (Robert) of Ballston Lake, his sister in law, Terry Brown of Round Lake, his four grandchildren whom he adored, Torrin Brown, Lauren Bowman, Grant Bowman and Cooper Brown, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held 11am Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at the Round Lake United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Malta Ridge Cemetery.
