Roland Van Stoodley, PhD, passed away Feb. 3, 2023, in Santa Maria, Calif., at the age of 91.
 Born May 2, 1931, in his family's home in Westport, he is survived by his wife, Barbara; five grown children, 12 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.
 Roland had many accomplishments \emdash  a U.S. Army veteran during the Korean Conflict, a graduate of Keene State College and a high school teacher at four different schools in New England.
 He founded and established River Valley Community College in Claremont, where he served as president for 24 years until his retirement in 1991.
 After retirement, Roland volunteered full time with the AARP as Volunteer Director of 10 states and Puerto Rico.
 With a partner he established Tri-State Professionals and was an arbitrator with the National Panel of Arbitrators and the National Center for Dispute Settlement. He served as a selectman for the Town of Newport as well as numerous other appointed and elected positions.
 Private family services will be held graveside.
 
 Roland married Barbara Ann "Barbie" Fenderson, daughter of Ernest Elwood Fenderson and Marjorie Joyce Drew, about 1978.
