David B. Houghton, 71, of Charlestown passed away on Tuesday morning Dec. 13, 2016, at Springfield (Vt.) Hospital.
He was born Oct. 28, 1945, in Windsor, Vt. He grew up on the family farm in Brownsville, Vt., and attended Windsor schools, graduating from Windsor High School, class of 1964.
He married Nancy Smith on June 13, 1973, in Springfield.
He served in the U.S. Army National Guard.
Dave was employed as a machinist at Fellows Gear Shaper, Sonnax, Design Standards and Lovejoy Tool Co.
He loved working outdoors, enjoyed farming, working with oxen and draft horses, enjoyed attending fairs and watching the oxen and horse pulling events. As a young man he was involved with 4-H, showing horses and cattle.
He is survived by his mother, Eleanor (Merrill) Houghton; wife, Nancy (Smith) Houghton; two sons, Toby Houghton and his wife, Sara, and Todd Houghton; two daughters, Lori Altfather and her husband, Ken, and Tanya Frady and her husband, Earl; sister, Judy Spaulding and her husband, Carl; half-sisters, Debra Snide, Janis Stevens and Patty Ebelt; and half-brother, Michael Lockwood. He is also survived by five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by Frank Houghton, Francis H. Lockwood and Francis A. Lockwood.
Friends may call at the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield Tuesday evening Dec. 20, 2016, from 6 to 8 p.m.
