Ernest Trueman Briggs Sr.

Ernest T. Briggs, 61, of 87 Wermuth Road, South Portland, died Sunday in a Portland hospital following a long illness.
He was born in Chipman, New Brunswick, June 23, 1907, son of Mrs. Dora Amanda Briggs and the late Herbert O. Briggs. He attended New Brunswick schools and came to Portland as a young man. He was employed as a truck driver for many years by the Hannaford Bros. Co.
He attended the Congregational Church.
Besides his mother, of Chipman, N.B., he is survived by two sons, Ernest T. Briggs Jr. and Richard A. Briggs, both of Portland; a daughter, Miss Mary Sue Briggs of South Portland; three brothers, Harland and George Briggs, both of New Brunswick, and Lawson Briggs of Belfast; two sisters, Mrs. Evelyn Murray and Mrs. Fern Murray, both of Chipman, N.B., and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at 749 Congress St., with the Rev. Robert H. Millar officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Ernest married Laney Elenor "Kitty" Carson, daughter of Frank Alden Carson Sr. and Laney Elenor McDermott, on 16 Jan 1932 in Maine, United States. (Laney Elenor "Kitty" Carson was born on 19 Feb 1912 in Jackson, Waldo, Maine, United States, died on 8 May 1985 in Belfast, Waldo, Maine, United States and was buried in Morrill Village Cemetery, Morrill, Waldo, Maine, United States.)
