Lawrence Pottle Sr., 79, of Benton, passed away Dec. 18, 2002 at a Waterville hospital after a long illness. He was born in Benton on May 9, 1923, son of Clarence and Isabella (Germon) Pottle.On May 1, 1943, he married Hester Raven and they lived most of their married life in Freedom. She passed away Jul 12, 1992.
 On January 28, 1943, he entered the U.S. Army, Artillery Battalion, and served as a scout in the European Theatre during World War II. He received a Purple Heart, Silver Star and Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant on October 13, 1945.
 He was a farmer before employment by Warren Bros. Paving Co. and later he was employed by SAD49 School District as a custodian. He was a member of East Benton Christian Church.
 
 Survivors include his 7 children: Lawrence & Audrey Pottle of Benton, Janice Harmon of Oakland, Allan & Yvonne Pottle of Benton, Gerry Pottle of Benton, Valerie & Robert Costain of Benton, Linda & Stephen Douglas of Derry, NH, and Donald Pottle and his companion, Anne Marie Charron of Benton; grandchildren, Laurie & Eric Bourgoin, Steven & Kim Pottle, Lewis Howard and companion Noreen Pellerin, Scott & Michelle Harmon, Andrew Harmon & fiancée Melissa Keating, Allan Pottle Jr. and his friend Crystal Higgins, Noelle & Mark Dodd, Ryan Pottle, Joshua Costain and Benjamin Costain; 10 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Ella & Bill Peavey, Mavis & Bob Chase of Benton and Glennis Thompson of Benton; sisters-in-law, Thelma & Carl Seaman of Litchfield, Eileen Pottle of Waterville and Faye Pottle of Benton; brother-in-law, Floyd & Julia Raven of Freedom; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
 Burial was in Brown Cemetery in Benton.
 
 Lawrence married Hester Merrill Raven, daughter of Ernest Edward Raven and Ellura Belle Larrabee, on 1 May 1943 in Albion, Kennebec, Maine, United States.
