Hester R. Pottle, 68, of East Benton, formerly of Freedom, died Sunday at a Boston hospital following a brief illness. Born Jan. 1, 1924, in Montville, daughter of Ernest & Ellura (Wentworth) Raven, she moved to Freedom at an early age and was a Freedom Academy graduate.
 For many years, she assisted her husband, Lawrence Sr., with the operation of their farm in Freedom. She later worked at Waterville Osteopathic Hospital in the billing and insurance department, retiring about three years ago.
 She was a member of East Benton Christian Church and was active in Church Bible study groups. She was also a member of Merrymeeting Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, Fairfield. As a Freedom resident, she was active in the Parent-Teacher Association and other community activities. She also attended Benton Falls Congregational Church.
 She is survived by her husband of 49 years of East Benton; sons, Lawrence Jr., Allan and Gerry, all of Benton, and Donald of Princeton; daughters, Mrs. Rodney (Janice) Harmon of Oakland, Mrs. Robert (Valerie) Costain of Benton, and Mrs. Steven (Linda) Douglas of Derry, NH; brother, Floyd Raven of Freedom; sister, Mrs. Carl (Thelma) Seaman of Litchfield; 10 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren. A grandson died previously.
