FREEDOM -- Ellura B. Buzzell, 89, a resident of the Raven Road, Freedom, died early Tuesday morning at a Waterville hospital following an extended period of failing health.
She was born in Knox, April 13, 1897, daughter of Everett and Hester (Shibles) Wentworth.
She was well known for the registered Welch ponies she bred and raised on her farm and won many awards from various pony shows in Maine.
A resident of the Raven Road since 1924, she was a 60-year member of Dirigo Grange, Freedom; former member of the Waldo County Pomona Grange, Eastern Star, Thorndike; Waldo County Farm Bureau; Temple Heights Association, Northport; Silver Spur Riding Club, Sidney; Maine Horse Association; and numerous other local organizations.
Her first husband, Ernest Raven, died in 1931. Her second husband, Emery Buzzell, died in 1955. Three children died previously.
She is survived by two daughters, Hester R. Pottle of Benton and Thelma C. Seaman of Litchfield; two sons, Burleigh E. Raven of Bay City, Mich. and Floyd E. Raven of Freedom; one sister, Etta Carter of Bradenton, Fla.; 24 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Freedom Congregational Church, Freedom Village.
Arrangements are by the Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, Main and Depot streets, Unity.
