THORNDIKE, April 2 -- The sympathy of all is extended to Mrs. Ellura Raven and family in the death of their husband and father, Ernest Edward Raven who passed away March 24, 1931, at his home in Freedom, after a long illness. His sufferings at times were almost unbearable but through all he was patient and cheerful directing the management of his large farm to the last. Mr. Raven was born in Woodland, April 18, 1894, coming to Knox when his father moved here a number of years ago. He was married to Ellura Wentworth, adopted daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Wentworth of Knox, and lived in Knox and Montville until a few years ago when he bought the Johnson farm in Freedom and through his untiring efforts and good judgment he became one of the most successful farmers of the town. Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Raven, five of whom, Burleigh, Evelyn, Floyd, Hester and Thelma survive him, and Allan and Annie who passed away a short time ago. He leaves to mourn his passing besides his family, Mrs. Hester Wentworth, who has made her home with them since the death of Mr. Wentworth; his father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. John Raven of Knox, his own mother having passed away before the family came to Knox; one brother, Will Raven of Knox; four sisters, Mrs. Minnie Pooler of Caribou; Mrs. Lettie Randall, Washburn; Mrs. Mattie Knowles, Auburn; Mrs. Lila Scott, Bangor; one half-brother, Herman Raven of Knox; two half-sisters, Mrs. Hazel Woodbury, Monroe and Miss Dorothy Raven of Knox. Rev. H. S. Erb of Montville was officiating clergyman assisted by Rev. Pennell of Freedom church. Mrs. Avis Cross of Freedom and sister, Dollie Shibles of Hartland sang appropriate selections. The flowers were many and beautiful. Pall bearers were Clarence Gilchrest, Thorndike; Charles Banks and Earl Howes, Montville, and George Marden, Freedom.
