BURNHAM -- H. Garfield Duplisea Sr., 69, died Feb. 5 1997, at a Waterville hospital. He was born Aug. 10, 1927, in Limestone, the son of Elmer and Dorothy (Davenport) Duplisea. He attended Limestone schools and served as a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He married Norma Gordon of Belfast, May 31, 1947. For 31 years, he was employed by the State of Maine Department of Transportation, Division No. 4, retiring as a truck driver in 1978. He was a former member of the Odd Fellows. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Family and friends especially enjoyed the benefits of his love of gardening. He was predeceased by his son, Herbert Garfield Duplisea, Jr.; a brother, Alvin Dupliseah; and his mother and father. He is survived by his wife, Norma Duplisea of Burnham; four sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Beverly Duplisea of Burnham, Dale and Myrna Duplisea of Burnham, Ron and Debbie Duplisea of Winslow, Brian and Robin Duplisea of Hartland; a daughter and son-in-law, Dawn Ann and Roger McMann of Burnham; a brother, Leroy Duplisea of Palmyra; a sister, Elizabeth Reynolds of Palmyra; 15 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, nieces and nephews. Friends may visit 7-8 p.m. Thursday at the Donald H. Shorey Funeral Chapel, 35 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Carlton Whitaker officiating. Spring burial will be at Pittsfield Village Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Mid-Maine Medical Center, Dialysis Unit, 149 North St.,Waterville 04901.
