LIMESTONE and CASWELL and VERNON, Conn. -- Eddie W. Berube, 81, died Saturday morning, Aug. 30, 2003, at a Van Buren nursing facility following a long illness. He was born Oct. 16, 1921, at Caswell, the son of Charlie and Julie Berube.
Eddie attended local schools and served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European theater. He lived in Connecticut for many years and was employed by the Vernon Water District, Vernon, Conn. After returning to Maine, he worked for various potato farmers in the Limestone and Caswell area and was a communicant of the St. Louis Catholic Church, Limestone. Eddie was an avid outdoorsman and sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing and possessed a special love for horses. His fondest memories were of working in the woods as a young man, using teams of workhorses to transport timber.
In addition to his parents, Eddie was predeceased by five brothers, Herman, Romeo, Percy, Valmore and Arthur Berube; two sisters, Mamie J. Barnes and Edna Braton. He is survived by three sons, Daniel, Bobbie and Allen Berube; one daughter, Brenda Colbeth, all of Connecticut; two brothers, Claude Berube of Caribou, Emery Berube and his wife, Dorothy, of Connecticut; three sisters, Ora Hurd of Caribou, Charlene Berube of Indiana, Elaine Sauro of Rhode Island; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours were held 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 1, 2003, at the Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated 1 p.m. Monday at the St. Louis Catholic Church, Main Street, Limestone, with the Rev. Jean-Paul Labrie celebrant. Interment followed at the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Hamlin. A time of fellowship with refreshments was held at the St. Louis Catholic Church Parish Hall immediately following the interment service. Those who choose may contribute in memory of Mr. Berube to the American Cancer Society, New England Division Inc., One Main St., Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086. Envelopes will be available at both the funeral home and church.


Eddie married Margaret L. Hazlett, daughter of Elden A. Hazlett and Myrtle Erdine Whipple, on 7 Jul 1951 in Maine, United States. (Margaret L.
