Leland C. Ellingwood, age 87 of Wellsweep Acres in Rochester, died early Monday morning, September 4, 2006 at home.
Born February 12, 1919 in Hereford, Quebec, Canada, he was a son of the late John M. and Clarise P. (Brouseau) Ellingwood. He resided in Rochester for the past five years, having previously resided in Middleton, NH for 21 years and having come from Colebrook, NH.
A United States Army Veteran, he served during World War II and was a life member of the 80th Army Division.
Lee was retired from the Town of Middleton, where he had served as Road Agent, and also was previously employed at Tibbetts Lumber Co. of Milton.
He was a member of the Burroughs-Drew Post No. 8663 V.F.W. of Union, a member of the Union Grange and a member of the Knights of Pythian of Manchester.
Survivors include his wife Joyce M. (Bolstridge) Ellingwood of Rochester, 3 sons: Claude Ellingwood of Milton, VT, Maynard Ellingwood of Colebrook, NH, Edwin Hapsgood of Oakland, ME, 5 daughters: Patricia Nye of Alfred, ME, Carol Emerson of Farmington, NH, Rebecca Prosper of Middleton, NH, Sarah Ellingwood of Vermont and Hazel Tilton of Nottingham, NH, 2 step-sons: Elwood Decker of Louisiana and Patrick Decker of Bucksport, ME, 27 Grandchildren, 53 Great Grandchildren, 1 Great Great Grandchild, also many Nieces and Nephews. He was pre-deceased by a son: Leland C. Ellingwood, Jr. and his first wife: Mae Ellingwood.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday September 9, 2006 at 1:00 pm at the Milton Assembly of God Church on Route 125 in Milton, NH with Rev. Alfred Weeden, pastor, officiating. Interment will be at a later date at Village Cemetery in Colebrook. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Seacoast Hospice, 642 Central Avenue, Dover, NH 03820 or Milton Assembly of God Church, Route 125, Milton, NH 03851.
