• Obituary: Press Republican, 5 Jan 2007, Plattsburgh, NY. WESTPORT -- Heather Ann Vanderhoof, 17, of Ledge Hill Road, Westport, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007, in Essex. She and her twin brother, Zach, were born in New London, Conn., Feb. 22, 1989, the daughter of Peter J. and Carolyn C. (Collins) Vanderhoof. Heather was currently a senior at Westport Central School and enjoyed art and science. She had plans to go to college and enter the health care field. Heather was known for her big smile and even bigger heart. She loved people and was a special friend to so many. She was kind, compassionate and fun loving, so often cheering up those who may have been struggling with their day. Heather was a free spirit who enjoyed her life. She was forthright, many times full of mischief and always imaginative. She excelled at art and loved creative writing. Her art was displayed at the Adirondack History Museum, juried at the Lake Placid Art Show and she was presently working on her NYS Portfolio Project. Her poetry was appreciated by many. Heather loved children and volunteered numerous hours at the Westport After School Program working with and caring for young children. Heather also loved animals of all shapes and sizes and couldn't resist a stray. Survivors include her parents of Westport; her twin brother, Zachary Roy Vanderhoof of Westport; maternal grandmother, Helen Collins Sr.; paternal grandmother, Jacqueline Vanderhoof of Mount Dora, Fla.; aunts and uncles Vicky (Vanderhoof) and Tom Tyler Jr. of Westport, Michael Vanderhoof of Oneonta, Dan Vanderhoof of Port Henry, Laurie and Carl Collins Jr. of Westport, Crystal (Collins) and Sandy Camargo of Lexington, Ky., Rebecca Thompson of Moriah; Heather's special friend, Tim Aubin of Essex; and many close and loving cousins. She was predeceased by her maternal grandfather, Carl E. Collins Sr.; and paternal grandfather, Peter J. Vanderhoof. There will be no public calling hours. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007, at 11 a.m. at the Westport Federated Church. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in the St. Philip Neri Cemetery in Westport. Donations in Heather's name may be made to the Westport Central School Art Program. Arrangements are by the Hamilton Funeral Home, 32 Champlain Ave., Westport.
