Inspectors See Little Chance Of Determining Cause Of Fire
State and local fire inspectors searched Friday for the cause of the fatal Northern Hotel blaze.
They concluded that the secret may have died with the only victim, 47-year-old Fred W. Corson of Skowhegan. Corson, an itinerant painter, apparently was the only person on the sixth floor of the hotel when the blaze broke out shortly after noon.
Inspectors confirmed earlier reports that the fire started on the top floor of the six-story structure. The section was so completely destroyed, however, there was little chance of determining the exact cause.
Fire Chief Paul R. Clark said that the investigation is continuing.
