WINTHROP -- Gracie L. Cookson, 77, of Winthrop Heights died Monday, July 14, 2008, at a local nursing home following a long illness.
She was born in Oakfield on March 11, 1931, the daughter of Ivan B. and Zelpha V. Morton Williams. She was educated in local schools.
Gracie married Benjamin Cookson on Feb. 18, 1990, in Freeport.
She loved packing picnic lunches and going for long rides in the car. She had a strong faith, belief and love of God. She enjoyed hosting Bible study groups and church gatherings in her home.
She and Benjamin would play guitars together and sing to entertain family and friends. She also enjoyed camping and had a love for all types of animals.
She is survived by her husband of 18 years; a son, Theodore and his wife, Edna Gordon, of Lewiston; two stepdaughters, Jackie and her husband, Gus Rodrigue, of Readfield, and Sandy and her husband, Keith Goldrup, of Monmouth; two grandchildren, 12 stepgrandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Eddie Williams, of Unity, Charles Williams, of Belfast, and Everett Williams, of Thorndike; and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 17, at Demers-Desmond Funeral Home 34 Cushing St., Brunswick.
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 22, at Burr Cemetery in Freeport.
Those who wish may make contributions in Gracie's memory to the charity of one's choice.

Gracie married Harold Eslie Gordon, son of George Clarence Gordon and Ruby Geneva Merry, on 20 Aug 1947 in Maine, United States. (Harold Eslie Gordon was born on 31 Jul 1925 in Brooks, Waldo, Maine, United States, died on 30 Oct 2015 in Unity, Waldo, Maine, United States and was buried in Webster Cemetery, Freeport, Cumberland, Maine, United States.)
