HOLDEN -- The death of Ralph L. Avery Jr., 36, occurred Saturday of a self-inflicted gun-shot wound.
He was born in Bangor, son of Ralph L. and Josephine (Eaton) Avery Sr., now of Verona, who survive.
He attended the Holden Congregational Church. A carpenter by trade, he was a member of Local 621 of the Carpenters and Joiners Union of America. He was formerly a member of the Maine National Guard.
Besides his parents, he is survived by: his widow, Alfreda A. Avery, and a son, Ralph L. Avery III, both of Holden; a sister, Mrs. Arthur Lear, Holden, and one uncle.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Holden Congregational Church. Friends may call at the Clark Mitchell Funeral Home, 299 Union Street, Bangor this evening between 7 and 9 p.m.


Ralph married Alfreda Alice "Freda" Raven, daughter of William Henry Raven and Naomi Pearl "Pearl" Carmichael, on 1 Oct 1961 in Thorndike, Waldo, Maine, United States. (Alfreda Alice "Freda" Raven was born on 12 Nov 1934 in Knox, Waldo, Maine, United States and died on 20 Aug 1995 in Bangor, Penobscot, Maine, United States.). The cause of her death was colon cancer.
