Seven-Year-Old George Giggie Killed as Truck Hits Him; Neck Broken
Machine Driven by Del Ouelette of Caribou\emdash Police Call Affair Purely Accidental
George Giggie, seven-year son of Mr. and Mrs. William Giggie of the East Limestone road, was killed instantly Thu. afternoon when a truck driven by Del Ouellete of Caribou struck him in the neck just after he had got out of a car in front of his home. The affair was termed purely accidental by the police.
The youngster had been given a ride home from school. As the car in which he was riding stopped, Ouelette, coming from the opposite direction slowed and blew his horn. The boy got out of the car, ran around the back of it and started across the road.
Oulette swerved his truck to the right to avoid hitting young Giggie and managed to get the front of the machine by safely, but the protruding end of the platform caught the boy in the neck, breaking it. Oulette stopped his truck within 25 feet of the spot.
The boy was taken into his home and then rushed to the hospital, but of course nothing could be done. Oulette was on a road job and had been hauling gravel, but his truck was empty at the time.
George's funeral was held at the Reformed Baptist church Sat. afternoon at 2:00, Rev. F. T. Wright officiating, assisted by Rev. P. W. Briggs. Walter Sharp, Eugene Wolverton, Kenneth Ward and Frederick Philbrick were the pallbearers. There were many beautiful flowers. Burial was in Riverside cemetery.
Many friends sympathize deeply with the parents and other relatives of the young boy, whose untimely death has caused sorrow wherever he was known.
