SCARBOROUGH - Marguerite B. Scamman, 95, of Scarborough, died Thursday, November 17, 2016, at her residence.
She was born in Albion, the daughter of Clarence Wellington and Ruth Ann Bartlett Hussey.
Marguerite was educated in the Skowhegan schools and graduated from Skowhegan High School in 1939.
She came to the South Portland area in 1947 with her husband, Thomas Abbott. In 1965, she moved to Scarborough with Paul.
She volunteered at the Pine Point Nursing Home in Scarborough and was a member of the Scarborough Historical Society.
She also was a member of the United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed gardening and canning the harvest. She made pies and yeast rolls for families and local fairs. Many people received mittens that she knit, as well as afghans that she crocheted. She liked to read, line dance and travel with her family.
Predeceasing her were two husbands, Thomas C. Abbott and Paul S. Scamman; as well as her four sisters, Christine Clark, Glennis Moore, Roberta Smith and Beverly McGuinness.
Surviving are her three children, Sandra L. Abbott of Scarborough; two sons, Gary L. Abbott and his wife Stacey, of Bluffton, South Carolina; and Richard T. Abbott and his wife Bethany, of Trophy Club, Texas; two grandchildren, Thomas E. Abbott, of York, Pennsylvania; and Jessica L. Abbott, of West Hartford, Connecticut; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 2pm Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at Brooklawn Memorial Park in Portland.
Arrangements a by the HOBBS FUNERAL HOME, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland.
