SEARSPORT -- Earl J. Merry, 81, of Searsport, went to be with the Lord on Jan. 20, 2000. He was born Sept. 13, 1918, in Thorndike, the son of John H. and Sadie J. (Dyer) Merry.
 During World War II, he worked in the shipyard in Portland. He later raised poultry for Maplewood and Penobscot for 25 years. He and his wife, Hazel, ran Treasures and Trash Antiques in Searsport for 37 years, retiring in 1999. He attended Faith Temple Church of God in Belfast.
 He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Hazel (Moulton) Merry; his daughter, Joanne and her husband, David Whitehouse of Ormand Beach, FL; grandchildren, Tracy and David James, Scott and Kim Philbrick, and Corey Philbrick, all of Florida, 9 great-grandchildren; sisters, Marie and Alex Opdahl of Monroe, Ina Moulton of Knox, and Millie and Lloyd Sylvester of Searsport, and Ruthie Robbins of Belfast; a brother, Ervin and Faustina Merry of Belfast; sisters-in-law, Martha Tweedie, Barbara Nickerson and Delores Merry; brother-in-law, Fred Berry; a special nephew, Norman Moulton and his wife, Betty; and many other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, John and Elwood Merry.
 A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, at Faith Temple of God, Route 52, Belfast.
