BELFAST -- Elwood L. Merry Sr., 61, died April 2, 1988, at his residence. He was born in Searsport, April 23, 1926, the son of John and Sadie (Dyer) Merry Sr. Elwood was a wholesaler and retailer in the fish business for some 30 years. For the last 15 years, he dealt in antiques. He is survived by his wife, Delores (Surek) Merry of Belfast; three sons and daughters-in-law, E. Leslie and Wendy Merry. Dennis and Tina Merry, Timothy and Pamela Merry, all of Swanville; four daughters and one son-in-law, Rebecca and Wayne Gallant of Belfast, Sonja Albee of Swanville, Melody Merry of Belfast, Kristi Merry of Belfast; two brothers, Irvin Merry of Belfast and Earl Merry of Searsport; four sisters, Marie Opdahl of Monroe, Ina Moulton of Knox, Mildred Sylvester of Searsport, and Ruth Robins of Belfast, nine grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Smart Cemetery in Swanville, with the Rev. Alison McGray officiating. Arrangements by Coombs Funeral Home, Belfast.

BELFAST, Sept. 19 -- Elwood L. Merry of Belfast and Delores Surek of Rockland were married recently. The double ring ceremony was performed by Rev. P. O. Andrews of Searsport at the home of the bridegroom's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Merry, Sr. The bride wore a white taffeta gown with a corsage of red roses. The bridesmaid, Mildred Merry, sister of the bridegroom, wore a gown of pale blue with a corsage of pink roses. Earl Merry, brother of the bridegroom, was best man.
The couple left immediately after the ceremony for Aroostook county and Canada. They will reside in Belfast. They received many gifts from relatives and friends.
