FREEDOM -- Harold "Mike" Raven, 89, loving husband and father, passed away peacefully at his home on Oct. 1, 2006, with his family by his side.
Mike was born April 23, 1917, to William and Pearl Raven of Knox. He attended Knox Grammar School and graduated from Freedom Academy in 1935. He served in the Army during World War II in the South Pacific. He was in the 103rd Infantry, Co K from 1941 to 1945. Upon discharge he bought a dairy farm in Thorndike, which he farmed for 26 years. He was a life member of Northport Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, Benjamin Berry Post in Unity, and a past member of Knox Station Grange.
Mike enjoyed going for outings right up until the last few weeks of his life, and he enjoyed spending time with his family.
He always lit up when he saw his grandchildren, flashing his million dollar smile. Even after Alzheimer's took his memory, he kept his sense of humor up until the last few days of his life.
Mike is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marguerite "Penney" Raven; his daughters, Elizabeth Phillips and husband, David, of Freedom, and Dorothy Trull and husband, Todd, of Unity; son Michael Raven of Freedom and former daughter-in-law, Mary Raven of Unity; sisters Fern Thompson of Northfield, Ethel Pattee and husband, Clayton, of Brooks, Judy Porter and husband, Guy, of Thorndike, Minnie Raven of Thorndike, Mabel Larrabee of Knox and Lila Bryant of Knox; brothers, Merle and wife, Val, of Augusta, Jack and wife, Agnes, of Cumberland, and Daniel of Thorndike; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Mike was predeceased by his parents; brothers Seth, Carl, William and Lawrence; and sisters Alfreda Moore and Edith Porter.
The family would like to express thanks to the friends that provided support and the help needed during this time. Also thanks to the nurses at Kno-Wal-Lin for the care they gave.
