THORNDIKE \emdash  Daniel O. Raven, 84, of Thorndike, passed away Sunday, April 19, 2009, following a brief illness. He was born Aug. 29, 1924, in Knox, the eighth child of William Henry and N. Pearl (Carmichael) Raven.
 In his earlier years, Daniel was employed with the State of Maine Department of Transportation, Pratt and Whitney in Connecticut and later as a self-employed dairy farmer for many years. He was a member of the Maine Farm Bureau and the Knox Station Grange.
 Daniel was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Lawrence "Bug," Earl, Harold "Mike," Seth, William "Bubby," and Carl Raven; his sisters, Alfreda Moore, Edith "Rosie" Porter and Lila Bryant; and two special nieces, Kathleen Ellis and Kathryn Buehring.
 He is survived by his two brothers, John "Jack" and Merle Raven; his five sisters, Ethel Pattee, Ferne Thompson, Mabel Larrabee, Ora "Judy" Porter and Minnie Raven; as well as several nieces and nephews.
 A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 2, at Knox Station Grange.
