• Obituary: Bangor Daily News, 25 Mar 2008. BREWER - Byron B. Scott Jr., passed away March 23, 2008, at the Maine Veterans' Home, Bangor. He was born Dec. 21, 1932, in Brewer, son of Byron B. Scott Sr. and Lila (Raven) Scott. After graduation from Brewer High School in 1951, Byron enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After basic training he served a short tour aboard a destroyer, the USS Johnston, DD-821, before being transferred to Germany to serve on the staff of the Commander Naval Forces in Heidelberg. It was there Byron met his future wife, Inge Renate (Bosch). Byron and Inge were married in 1954 and together raised five children. Other duty stations included the Naval Air Station, Brunswick; Naval Station, San Juan, Puerto Rico; U.S. Naval Training Center, Bainbridge, Md.; and Patrol Squadron 23, Brunswick. After completion of 20 years of active service, Byron retired from the Navy with the rank of chief petty officer. He then secured employment with the Social Security Administration at the Bangor District Office and worked there until 1988, when her retired from government service. Byron was then hired by Eastern Agency on Aging, serving as an advocate for the elderly until 1994. In addition to his parents, Byron was predeceased by a half brother, Ralph Scott; and a half sister, Natalie Eames. Surviving are his loyal and loving wife, Inge; and his five children, Carmen M. Scott of Bangor, Suzanne L. Scott of North New Portland, Robert H. Scott of Brewer, Byron B. Scott III of Chesapeake, Va., and James W. Scott of Brewer; three granddaughters, Lila and Sudie Myers of North New Portland and Rachel Scott of Chesapeake, Va.; three sisters, Eleanor Gulisano of Hampden, Rose Wiggins and her husband, Robert, of Hampden and Nelda Conti and her husband, Charles, of Chapin, S.C.; his German family; three brothers-in-law, Helmut, Rudolf and Hans and their spouses, Edith, Marianne and Ruth; nieces and nephews. Byron requested services to be private.
