THORNDIKE, April 28 -- Funeral services were held at the Congregational church Saturday at 10 a.m. for Walter C. Gordon, a World War veteran, who died of pneumonia at the Togus veterans' hospital.
Mr. Gordon was a native of Thorndike and lived here many years. He married Miss Bernice Merry of this town and is survived by three daughters, Marie, Carleen and Norma; two sons, Alton and Walter Jr.; and two brothers, Charles Gordon and George Gordon of Thorndike. His age was about 48 years.
The Rev. George Hustus of Knox was the officiating clergyman. The bearers were Ralph Gordon of Unity, Maurice Gordon of Freeport, and Ansil Carson and Kenneth Carson of Thorndike. Interment was in the Knox Station cemetery.

Walter married Bernice Eloise Merry, daughter of Herbert Leslie Merry and Selena Irene Raven, on 15 Sep 1917 in Belfast, Waldo, Maine, United States. (Bernice Eloise Merry was born on 13 Aug 1900 in Woodland, Aroostook, Maine, United States, died on 30 Nov 1982 in Camden, Knox, Maine, United States and was buried in Grove Cemetery, Belfast, Waldo, Maine, United States.)
