Ralph G. Gordon, 68, of the Bangor Road, died Monday morning, October 27, 1986, at a Waterville hospital following a long illness. He was born in Thorndike, December 5, 1917, son of George and Ruby (Merry) Gordon. He married Alice Haskell on June 17, 1939.
As a young man, he worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps as a forester in the Mount Battie \endash Camden area. A veteran of World War II, he was a recipient of the Bronze Star for heroism and bravery on September 25, 1944, in Belgium. He was assigned to the 30th Cavalry and saw action in many major offenses, including the Battle of the Bulge.
Following his discharge in 1945, he worked for the Portland Packing Co. in Unity and later as a foreman of the Redi-Peel Potato Co. for about 12 years. He worked as a Carpenter in the Waterville-Unity area for a number of years and several years before his retirement he became a self-employed brick mason.
He was a member of the Benjamin-Berry Post American Legion of Unity, and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by his wife of Unity; two sons, Herbert of Dexter and David of Unity; four daughters, Mrs. Emily Potter of Andover, Mass., Mrs. Janice Evans of Hermon; Mrs. Wayne (Nancy) Smith of Unity and Pauline Gordon of Unity; one sister, Mrs. William (Hazel) Seekins of Freeport; two brothers, Harold Gordon of Oakland and Alva (Red) Gordon of Belfast; 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Lawry Brothers Funeral Home in Unity, Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Pond Cemetery in Unity.
