Edith 'Rosie' (Raven) Porter, 67, of Brooks, passed away peacefully at a Bangor Hospital on Friday, April 27, 2001. Her strong faith enabled her to endure many years of illness with an uncomplaining spirit.
 She was born in Knox on Aug. 14, 1933, daughter of William H. and N. Pearl (Carmichael) Raven.
 She graduated from Freedom Academy, Class of 1951.
 She married Cecil R. Porter on July 6, 1952, and they made their home and raised their family in Brooks. She loved to read and do crossword puzzles and she had a sharp mind for dates, events and her family genealogy.
 She hosted Thursday morning coffees for family and friends around her kitchen table for many years. She loved her children and their families and enjoyed keeping up with her extended family.
 She was predeceased by her parents; a sister, Alfreda Moore; four brothers, Lawrence, Seth, William "Bub" and Carl Raven; and special nieces, Kathy Pattee Ellis and Katie Thompson Buehring.
 Survivors include her devoted husband of 48 years, Cecil R. Porter of Brooks; their six children and families, Vicki and Scott Rogers of Unity and their children, Fred, Sarah and Cedric; Jennifer and George Weber of Windham and their son, Gabriel Conlon and his wife Brittney; Lynelle and Edwin Greenlaw of Thorndike and their children, Anthony and Stephanie; Eric and Jan Porter of Oakland and their children, Justin and Chelsi; Lana Porter Schmitz and John Schmitz of New Haven, Conn. and their son, Christopher; and Constance and Dennis Dever of Cape May, N.J.; and one great-grandson, Cailan Conlon. She is also survived by her brothers, Harold "Mike" Raven of Thorndike, John "Jack" Raven of Yarmouth, Daniel Raven of Thorndike and Merle Raven of Augusta; sisters, Ethel Pattee of Brooks, Ferne Thompson of Machias, Mabel Larrabee of Thorndike, Lila Bryant of Knox, Judy Porter of Thorndike and Minnie Raven of Thorndike; and many, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
 At her request, there will be no service.
 Cremation arrangements were by the Rackliffe Funeral Home, 54 Church St., Belfast.
