OXBOW PLANTATION -- William G. Whipple, 95, went on to the great fishing hole in the sky on Aug. 31, 2003. He was born in Sheridan, June 30, 1908, the son of William R. and Hattie E. (Carson) Whipple.
He was employed in the wood harvesting industry for most of his life and worked on the pulp drives in the spring of the year. Willie was an avid fisherman and hunter and was a life-long trapper up until the age of 90. He was also a Registered Maine Guide for nearly 70 years.
He is survived by two sons, William R. Whipple and his wife, Joycelyn, of Oxbow, Donald G. Whipple and his wife, Joan, of Masardis; four grandchildren, Cynthia Craig and her husband, Merle, of Masardis, Melody Beckwith of Bangor, Dawn Roberts and her husband, Phil, of Presque Isle, Robbin Whipple and his wife, Marcey, of Ashland; five great-grandchildren, Roger Craig, Crystal Grant, Ashley Grant, Katia Roberts and Amanda Whipple; two sisters, Madeline Earle of Prosque Isle, and Myrtle Sperry of Washburn: several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Madeline (Humphrey) Whipple on Aug. 28, 1990; four sisters, Esther, Ethel, Ivy and Mildred; two brothers, Joseph and Fred.
A graveside committal service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at the Willard Cemetery, Oxbow, with the Rev. Thomas L. Caton officiating. Family and friends are she invited to gather for a reception at the Masardis Municipal Building immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in his memory to the Oxbow School Renovation, 685 Oxbow Road, Oxbow, ME 04764. Arrangements are a service of Stimson-Ouellette Funeral Home, 114 Exchange St., Ashland.
