OXBOW PLT. -- Frederick L. Whipple, 87, died March 11, 1998, at a Presque Isle hospital. He was born in Oxbow, Dec. 21, 1910, the son of William and Hattie (Carson) Whipple Sr. He was employed as a logging contractor for Great Northern Paper Co. for many years and was a registered Maine Guide. He is survived by two sons, Richard Whipple of Oxbow, Frederick Whipple Jr. and his wife, Carol of Ashland; one step-daughter, Charlotte Morrison of Worcester, Mass.; one brother, William Whipple Jr. of Oxbow; two sisters, Madeline Earle of Oxbow and Myrtle Sperry of Lebanon; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including a special grandson, whom he raised, Richard Young of Oxbow. He was predeceased by his wife, Beatrice (Fitzsimmons) Whipple in 1984; a daughter, Bonnie Freeland in 1968; and by a brother, Joe Whipple; and a sister, Mildred Gardner. Relatives and friends may call at the Stimson-Oullete Funeral Home, 37 Exchange St., Ashland, 2 p.m. until the time of service on Sunday. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev. Donald Morton Jr. officiating. Spring interment will be in the Willard Cemetery, Oxbow.
