ASHLAND - Joseph Mory Whipple, 84, died Sept. 5, 1996, at a Presque Isle hospital. He was born in Monroe, March 5, 1912, the son of William and Hattie (Carson) Whipple. He lived all of his life in the Oxbow-Ashland area, where he worked as a woodsman, trapper and guide. He was a respected scaler for J.P. Levesque & Sons, Big Brook Logging, Inc., and other local mills. Mr. Whipple was an animal lover and avid musician. He is survived by two sisters, Madeline Earle of Oxbow and Myrtle Sperry of East Lebanon; two brothers, Fred and William Whipple, both of Oxbow; two "special daughters", Ruthene Coty of Ashland and Barbara Cameron of Camden; three "special grandchildren", Jamie of Camden, Leah and Amber, both of Shirley, Mass.; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Amelia (Stevens) Whipple, in 1947; and by his 20 year companion, Leona Currier, in 1985. In accordance with Joe's wishes, there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Oxbow Cemetery with the Rev. Thomas L. Caton officiating. A memorial reception will follow the service at the Masardis Municipal Building. Friends who wish may donate in his memory to the Central Aroostook Humane Society, Industrial Park, Presque Isle 04769. Arrangements by Stimson-Ouellette Funeral Home, 37 Exchange St., Ashland.
