WASHBURN - Ruth N. Duncan, 93, passed away Friday, April 3, 2020, at a Caribou Healthcare Facility. She was born on January 17, 1927, in Washburn, the daughter of Joseph and Minnie (Raven) Pooler.
She graduated from Washington State Normal School Teaching College in Machias, Maine. She taught third grade in Washburn and then was a substitute teacher for many years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Washburn.
She is survived by two daughters and their spouses, Janet and Donald Peary of Washburn, and Lori and James McKeen of Bangor, two special and much loved grandchildren, Christopher Peary and his wife, Laura of Bangor and Lindsay (McKeen) Whitty and her husband, Ian of Dedham, two adopted grandchildren, Elizabeth and Tyler Boyd of Washburn and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 63 wonderful years, Hanford, her brothers, Orman, Eugene, William and Bernard, and her sisters, Evelyn, Annie, Josephine, and June.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 5, 2020, 1pm, at the Washburn Riverside Extension Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the Washburn Memorial Library, 1287 Main Street, Washburn, Maine 04786, for a new children's section.
