BELFAST -- Mrs. Edith M. Briggs, 48, of Huntress Avenue, here, died Saturday after a long illness.
 She was born December 21, 1915 at Ashland, daughter of Frank A. and Laney (McDermott) Carson.
 She was a member of the Belfast Methodist Church.
 Besides her husband William L., she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. June Riley and Mrs Nancy Pattershall of Belfast; two sons, William E. of Belfast, and Robert D. Briggs of U.S. Air Force in Germany; her father of Morrill; a step-son, Clinton A. Briggs of Morrill; a foster son, Peter Patten of Belfast; three sisters, Mrs. Selena Littlefield and Mrs. Laney King of Belfast, Mrs. Zelma Westgate of Berkley, Mass.; a brother, Frank A. Carson Jr. of Morrill; four grandchildren; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
 Funeral services will be held at Coombs Funeral Home, here Tuesday at 2 p.m., the Rev. Norman C. Young of the Belfast Methodist Church officiating.
 Interment will be in Grove Cemetery.
