AUBURNDALE - Richard R. Gardner, 76, passed away on July 18, 2017 at the Good Shepherd Hospice Forsythe Hospice House in Auburndale.
Born February 26, 1941 in Hartford, Connecticut he moved to the area in 1971.
He was the owner of Crippens Bar and Grill and the Amber Glow Restaurant in Lake Alfred; had owned a lawn service, was a police officer in Lake Alfred and helped establish the first ambulance service in Lake Alfred.
He was member and Past Master of Winter Haven Masonic Lodge # 186 F &AM and a dual member of Travelers Masonic Lodge F & AM # 390 in Lake Alfred, and was a Shriner.
Preceded in death by his wife, Cecelia in 2014, he is survived by: two daughters, Nancy Gardner of Auburndale, FL and Susie Gardner of Polk City, FL; two sons, Rick Gardner of Virginia and Tommy Gardner of Auburndale, FL; 3 brothers, Mike Gardner of Winter Haven, Carroll Gardner of Winter Haven and Joe Gardner of Connecticut; a sister, Alice Drew of Maine; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 1:00pm till 3:00pm, Sunday, July 23, 2017 at Oak Ridge Funeral Care in Winter Haven. Masonic services will be held at 3:00pm.
